On April 7, 2024, NYC celebrated its first-ever Tulip Day.
With over 200,000 tulips brought in from New Jersey and Virginia – Union Square transformed into a Netherlands-inspired tulip field for just one day.

The Tulip Day Experience
New York City’s first tulip day was organized by the Netherlands Consulate General in recognition of the 400th anniversary of Dutch settlers in what was once New Amsterdam.
My friend casually reserved five tickets in hopes of finding some friends to go with. We had no idea how high demand they were or that they’d “sell” out.
The tickets to Tulip Day were free and you actually get to pick 10 of your own to take home with you.
You can reserve tickets for the next Tulip Day event here or on Eventbrite.
When we showed up for our 11:30am time slot, there were crowds of people trying to get in. Honestly, it was complete madness!

Many people did not know about the event and that you had to reserve tickets ahead of time.
Thankfully the event organizers took control of the crowd and found a way to file ticket holders in through the crowds.
Once we got into the roped-off tulip “field” we were surprised that it wasn’t crowded and made for a lovely tulip-picking experience.
Colorful variations of tulips covered Union Square and it was so much fun walking around, carefully plucking my selections to take home.
Overall I felt the tulip event was totally worth going to and I can’t wait to participate next year!
This post was all about NYC tulip day.
