NYC Weekend Diary Series: March 13-16 2025.
This is the second post in the NYC Weekend Diaries series!
I wanted to start regularly posting a weekend series diary like this to provide you with oodles of ideas on what to do in New York, but alas, I have been awful at keeping up with it. Here’s my first post if you missed it!
I also have been out of New York for the last three months backpacking in Europe & South America. You can read allll about it on my much more popular travel blog.
Truthfully, I started blogging to make money and have a self-made portfolio to help me secure jobs. Also, I love traveling and writing – so what better way to combine passions and make some money on the side?
But with the rise of AI and an oversaturated blog market, I think everyone has really lost their way. Blogging used to be fun, and informal, and you could have a solid idea of what kind of personality the human behind the words had. Now, we just all sound the same.
And I’m guilty of this too.
All the gadgets and gismos of AI, SEO, and affiliates have once again, ruined a good, fun thing.
This is why I wanted to create a more niche informal blog about how much I love New York and where the best places really are to visit. Because guess what? TikTok recommendations SUCK.
I’m not saying you have to read this blog, but for the love of god – go to Reddit before TikTok for recommendations.
Anyway, enough about my feelings.
Here’s what I did in New York this past weekend.
I’ve only been back in the States for a few weeks, and I have been busy catching up with my friends. After all, I was gone for 3 months!
I’m also currently on *hiatus* from work, which is just a bullshit term for unemployed. I’m unemployed.
Which means, happy hour and cheap outings only!
Thursday Happy Hour at Verlaine
Verlaine is one of my favorite happy hour spots in the city.
They have $8 lychee martinis that are delicious and not watered down. And their food is affordable and actually SO good. I always get their chicken dumplings.
It can get busy and loud, but if you go at the earlier end of a weekday (between 5-7 pm), it’s not bad.
After Verlaine, the night was still young so we headed to a dive bar called The Magician which was so fun and had beers for under $6, which is unheard of. It was packed on a Thursday night!

Friday night in the West Village
I met up with a good friend I haven’t seen yet at Wilfie & Nell.
If you are single, this is the spot to meet your next date – I swear!
Everything about this bar is just right. The way that it’s set up; a mix of communal tables, standing areas, and a luxurious bar is exactly the way social places should be designed. It’s small and intimate, but it never feels too cramped!
And oh well, if you bump into someone? Perfect chance to ask for their number ; )
Social aspects aside, the pub food here is really SO good!
I’m obsessed with the West of 7th St. Cocktail, spinach dip, and the chicken sandwich.

Afterward, we went to a dive bar called The Galway Hooker Irish Pub. LOL! The place was just as weird as the name, but it was bumpin’. I couldn’t believe how many people came here, despite the bad google reviews.
The downstairs had the vibe of a dive bar. Then, you go upstairs and it’s a full-on cocktail bar lounge with loud music. People were dressed to the nines and there was even a bathroom attendant and a disco ball. I guess you can really say, there’s a place for anyone here.

Sunday – Half Marathon Day WOO!
Let me tell you, marathon days in New York are the BEST DAYS of the year.
Forget Santacon or St Patrick’s Day. Marathon day is the underdog New York holiday.

Although I do love a jog around the neighborhood, you likely will never catch me running a marathon. And frankly, I’d hate to miss out on the immaculate vibes you get standing there on the streets cheering on your friends, and even random strangers.
Someone is always blasting Black Eyed Peas, blowing bubbles, or shooting confetti. And if you’re lucky, you can usually find someone(s) dressed as the Statue of Liberty!!
Lunch at Wolfe & Tone
After the marathon, a big group of us had lunch at Wolfe & Tone, an Irish pub near NoMad.
While the food was good, they advertised happy hour & live music which they didn’t have – and that was a bummer.

I’m suddenly realizing that I spent almost the whole weekend in Irish pubs, but I did not go out for St Patricks day.
I refuse to enter Manhattan on most holidays. I just can’t do it. But cheers to those who do!
